The Orion-XS 12/12-50 700W battery charger from Victron Energy offers comprehensive remote monitoring and control capabilities, giving you complete control over your device and system. The Orion-XS revolutionizes adaptive DC-DC charging of batteries. It has been specially developed for use in dual battery systems charged by a (smart) alternator. The innovative technology for cooling the aluminum board ensures an amazing efficiency of 98% without the need for fans.
The Orion-xs functions as both a DC-DC battery charger and a power source and offers a wide input and output voltage range. This is particularly important for vehicles with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 intelligent alternator, which often delivers too low a charging voltage even when the engine is running or in situations with longer cables, as is often the case with boats and motorhomes, voltage drops can occur. In such scenarios, precise and controlled charging is essential to fully charge the service battery and protect the starter/input battery from discharge.

Adaptive four-stage charging algorithm
With lead batteries, it is crucial to keep the constant voltage phase short during shallow discharges to prevent the battery from overcharging. After a deep discharge, the constant voltage phase is automatically extended to ensure that the battery is fully charged. The Orion xs offers fully programmable charging algorithms and eight pre-programmed battery settings.

Remote on/off switch
The Orion xs can be switched on and off remotely via the connector for remote on/off switching or via the VictronConnect app. Typical applications include wiring a switch or a battery management system (BMS).

Intelligent alternator compatibility
An integrated mechanism detects whether the engine is running (engine cut-off detection), which only activates the charger when the alternator is supplying power. This ensures that the charger only draws power when the alternator is supplying power, i.e. when the engine is running.

Comprehensive electronic protection
The protective functions include overload, short circuit and overtemperature. The charger is protected against overheating by reducing the output power when the maximum device temperature is reached.

Parallel connection to increase the output current
It is possible to connect any number of devices in parallel.
